Eine Welt verfällt dem Rausch

Erstmals schriftlich erwähnt wird Schlafmohn, die Pflanze aus dem Opium gewonnen wird, im 4. Jahrtausend vor Christus.

Damals wurde sie in Ägypten bereits als nützliche Pflanze angebaut. Aus dieser Zeit stammen auch die ersten Bronzezylinder, die als Opiumpfeifen gedient haben sollen.

Durch Schnitte in die unreife Samenkapsel des Schlafmohns setzt sich eine milchige Flüssigkeit ab, die später getrocknet als Rohopium geerntet werden kann.

Neben den Ägyptern fanden die Römer großen Gefallen am sonderbaren Mittel, das der Gesundheit wie auch den kreativen Fähigkeiten diente.
